DETAILS
A stunning, delicate matcha cup, handmade in Nara by a master potter. With beautiful, unique details in the glazing and shape of this hand-built cup, it makes for a very special matcha vessel. With a fairly wide shape and flat base, this cup could double as a small matcha bowl: whisk and sip from the same vessel.

We sourced this cup while we were in Nara when we visited the potter's studio. He invited us inside for a genmaicha and he told us all about the style of his pottery, Akahada-yaki. Akahada-yaki is a type of traditional pottery from Nara primarily focused on tea ceremony ware, the origins of which date back to the 1600s. There are only seven kilns that produce Akahada-yaki.
